Course Description

The City & Guilds 2391-50 qualification has recently been introduced to replace the 2394-01. The new assessments will be beneficial to candidates by reducing assessment duplication, being largely open book and also having a quicker turn around for results.

During our 7-day course you will cover the syllabus  for the City & Guilds 2391-50 Initial Verification of electrical installations (new installation work covered by an Electrical Installation Certificate).

You will learn to inspect and test new installations in compliance with key industry documents such as IET BS7671 and Guidance Notes 3.

Your theory classes and inspection and testing workshops will improve your understanding and enable to you to accurately and competently complete the Electrical Installation Certificate and associated Schedules.

For those that are feeling a little apprehensive this study book will give you more confidence prior to starting the course.

About this course…

The City & Guilds 2391-50 qualification has recently been introduced to replace the 2394-01. The new assessments will be beneficial to candidates by reducing assessment duplication, being largely open book and also having a quicker turn around for results.

This course is ideal for those that only intend to certificate new installation work via an Electrical Installation Certificate or Minor Works Certificate. For those that intend to complete a Condition Report on existing properties, the 2391-52 should be considered.

Who is it suitable for?

The course is ideal for Electricians and Domestic Installers that wish to improve their knowledge and application of inspection and testing. Electricians looking to improve their career prospects and those working towards ‘Qualified Supervisor’ status should also consider this course. If you aim to apply for  ‘Approved Electrician’ grading with the JIB you will need to achieve 2391-52 (Combined Initial and Periodic)

Course entry requirements?

To complete this course it is recommended that you have a good working knowledge of BS7671 (18th Edition) and have recent practical experience of inspection and testing. If you have little experience of testing you will benefit from attending a 1-1 workshop session prior to the course which is available for £240 + VAT. Alternatively you could consider completing the City & Guilds 2392-10 Level 2 course first.

Task A – 2.5 hour practical assessment of the initial verification and certification of an installation

Jon Grocock Joint Managing Director

Jon Grocock

Jon completed an electrical apprenticeship with Midlands Electricity Board (MEB). After qualifying and working as an electrician for a number of years he specialised in the security industry, installing systems including CCTV, door entry systems, intruder and fire alarms. After progressing to Project Engineer Jon took the opportunity of a complete change in career and moved into training.

Jon has worked in training since 2003 and is now responsible for Quality Assurance, Training Delivery and AM2 Centre Management.

Jon still plays an active role in delivery and specialises in:

  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing
  • City & Guilds 2396 Design, Erection & Verification

Rob Glover Training Manager

Rob Glover

Rob started his career by completing an electrical apprenticeship with a local company before working as a self-employed electrician. Rob has since worked as an Approved Electrician, Qualifying Supervisor and Electrical Training Officer.

Having worked in the training industry since 2007 Rob is an experienced Tutor / NVQ Assessor and Programme Manager.

As well as being part of our Management Team, Rob can also be found helping with the delivery of 18th Edition, EV Charging and Inspection and Testing courses.

Kevin Brough AM2 Instructor/Tutor

Kevin Brough

Kevin has years of industry experience having completed an electrical apprenticeship with a local council and subsequently worked in a variety of roles at a large housing association.

During his career Kevin has completed a wide range of electrical and H&S qualifications and has supported the development of electrical apprentices in recent years.

Kevin is the main AM2 Instructor for our NET Approved AM2 centre which opened in 2016.
