Please note: For this course you will need:

  • to provide photo ID (passport, ECS card or photo driving licence). Without photographic ID you will be refused entry to any examinations.
  • you will need a copy of the following publications for the course and exams (free loan copies available to use in the centre during the course)
    • IET Code of Practice Grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems 2nd Edition
    • IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671 (Brown book)

IMPORTANT - course eligibility

This course is designed for electricians aged 18 or over. To enrol, you must provide evidence of a relevant qualification from the list below. These qualifications must have been completed within the past five years, or you must demonstrate that you have kept your knowledge up to date by holding the current Wiring Regulations qualification.

  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (2357)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) (2357)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (5357)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification (2347)
  • Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
  • Equivalent historical qualifications Electrotechnical Assessment Specification or
  • ECS Gold Card issued by the JIB or SJIB – Installation Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, or Domestic Electrician.


To succeed on this course, you will need a good understanding of both Maths and English, as these skills are essential for interpreting the regulations and completing the assessments.

  • Maths: Basic numerical understanding is required to interpret values, measurements, and calculations.
  • English: Strong reading comprehension is crucial for navigating the IET Code of practice and taking the online exam.
